Special
Projects
At EXE Sails & Covers, we
are very keen on taking on and assisting with any special project you may
be taking on. We have a wealth of knoweledge at our disposal and we love a new challenge.
Below are a few
of our latest projects:
Austin Toast
Rack
The brief was to provide canvas sides for an Austin Toast Rack, a
car over 100 years old that has belonged to a local family since new. They
provide the car for weddings and other events so it is essential that it can
be enclosed ensuring the bride doesn’t get wet!!
We came up with a neat
solution that almost looks original, it was inevetible that the appearance of
the car would change dramatically the customer was exceptionally pleased with
the results.
Wayfarer
Cruising canopy
As an illustration of just what
is achievable in terms of special projects or one-off items, the project below
gives a good example. If you have a dinghy you’d like a Cuddy for, similar to
the one below, don’t despair. The measurement can be done remotely and the finished item sent through the post.
All enquiries welcome.
This was a special project to produce a flexible waterproof canopy
for a cruising Wayfarer dinghy. The requirement was for a cuddy/tent
combination which would keep crew sheltered when resting and yet be easily collapsible and have no frames. Viewed from the front.
It was an interesting challenge making a cuddy in two pieces which
split down the middle, and was able to be undone instantly allowing
access to the mast for dropping sails. The kicker position had to be changed
for this to work.
When stowed the canopy lashed down to it’s track, being handily out of the way, yet ready for
use.
There is also a rear extension which zips onto the back edge of the
cuddy forming a total boat tent, though this doesn’t really do much but keep
the rain out, and creates limited space inside. For proper
camping, a roomier Boom tent is a lot more practical. However, you can’t cross
the Channel with a boom tent set
up.
