Repairs and
Servicing
Sail
Repairs
For all but the lucky few, damage to sails is
inevitable at some point and we know how important it is to get you back
on the water and providing a repair that will last. Our team
are some of the most experienced sailmakers and there isn’t a lot they haven’t seen
and
repaired.
For
all Sails and Canvas Work, we offer a full valeting
and overhaul service including an inspection of
the item for wear and tear, as well as carrying out
repairs.
Sails are a big investment and in order to keep them working smoothly, it
is important to get them cleaned, removing the sail, damp and to stop any mildew from growing of
spreading during storage. Bring your sails into us as soon as you have laid up
for the winter and we will give them our full attention to
ensure they are clean, serviced and ready for the next season.
Canvas
Repairs
We can repair and refurbish most marine canvas products;
replacing broken zips, patching holes, replacing eyelets and refreshing stitching as long as the cloth
has not been exposed to too much UV light and can still cope with the stitching. However
if the cloth has become too degraded, its time for replacing the whole item.
If you can rip the cloth with your fingers, the cloth has “had it” and the item needs to be replaced with a new
one.
The clear plastic of sprayhood and canopy windows can be replaced ahead of
time, giving a new lease of life to a well-loved hood. However this depends on
the state of the hood and windows. A PVC hood may have become far too
brittle with badly cracked to fit new “glass” to, and an old Acrylic hood may have stretched too
much, making the shape of the window guesswork. But within those provisions it
is usually possible to fit new windows.
Emergency
Repairs
During an event, a passage or even a leisurely cruise down the
river, it can be devastating to have a breakage or damage to one of your
sails. We offer a overnight and weekend repair service and can usually get your sails repaired for the
next morning’s racing or even the next high tide. We also try and stock as much as possible in house for
repairs and as spares and if we don’t have it in stock, we can
usually get it in the next day.
We can not only repair sails and canvas work, but almost anything that
requires sewing and below is just a small list of what we can
help with.

- Agricultural
Covers - Household items
We can repair most
canvas and fabric items. However, with most household
items such as seat covers and deckchairs, the repair time and subsequent cost may be more expensive than
replacing the item. This is particularly true with cloth deckchairs and garden umberellas, etc. The more
dismantling and re-assembly we don’t have to do, the
cheaper and more cost effective a repair will
be.
Alterations
We didn’t make this cover, but it didn’t fit
properly, until it was altered.
